A BAT'S CINDERELLA VARIANT

Once upon a time in a land called the Amazon Rain forest there lived a vampire bat family. There was a mother, father, and a little bat named Battina. Their home was an old tree. One dark night, Mother bat flew out to collect blood for Tina and never returned to her roost.

Dad and little Battina were very upset. Time passed, and as in other fairy tales, Father Bat married again. His new wife Lady Fruiteena and her two daughters, Mango and Kiwi, came to the roost to live. Kiwi and Mango were jealous of Tina's beauty, and called her Battina. One night father bat flew into the rain forest in search of prey. Nights past and Father Bat was nowhere to be found. Battina cried sadly. She had given up all hope of her father returning.

With the father gone, Lady Fruiteena put Battina to work gathering glow in the dark epiphytes. One night, a messenger came with an invitation to a ball. Battina brought it inside and gave it to her stepmother. " Ew, Battina, get your wings off our mail" cried Kiwi. "QUIET!" screeched Lady Fruiteena, "We have to get ready for the ball at the Prince Fang's crystal cave".

Battina felt a thrill of excitement. "May I go Stepmother?" she asked. Lady Fruiteena replied, "Only if you clean the tree, harvest the fruit, help your sisters get ready, and make your own dress". Battina worked night and day struggling to finish her chores.

Five days after the invitation had arrived the sisters left for Prince Fang's cave. Battina climbed out on a branch and cried. Soon her Fairy Butterfly appeared, (They appeared quite often in those days). With her magic flower, she sprinkled golden powder on Battina. In an instant a beautiful petal dress and glass sandals clothed Battina." Oh, thank you!" said Battina as she flew happily away on a moonbeam to crystal cave.

Battina flew in and spread her wings gracefully. She saw prince Fang sadly sitting on his throne and fell in love. Prince Fang looked up and saw a beautiful bat flying into his ballroom. They fell in love and danced until the sun's first's rays appeared. When the first rays of sunlight hit the crystals, Battina quickly left the cave. As she was flying, a glass sandal fell from her foot and into the prince's wing.

Prince Fang was terribly depressed. He wanted to find the beautiful bat he had danced with. The next day while he was resting, Prince Fang thought of an idea.

Now it's your turn to be an author. Finish this variant of Cinderella, use your imagination, and make sure everyone will live happily ever after.
