SHAZAM/CAPTAIN MARVEL

    Gods have been in comic books since 1940, when Captain Marvel(called captain thunder in his 1st appearance) chanted the the Magic word," SHAZAM!".   Each letter in Shazam stands for a god.

Solomon Wisdom
Hercules(Heracles) Strength
Atlas Stamina
Zeus Power
Achilles Courage
Mercury Speed

     Although Captain Marvel is no longer Captain Marvel( Timely Comics changed its name to Marvel Comics and claimed rights to the name), he is now Shazam.

 

THOR

    Another God in comic books is Thor.  Introduced in 1962 in Journey into Mystery #83, lame Dr. Blake found Thor's magic hammer, Mjolnir, in a cave.   When he strikes his cane on the ground, he transforms into the mighty Thor.   Introduced two issues after Thor, was his evil step brother, the master of mischief, Loki.  And one issue after that, thor's father, Odin.  Many different Monsters and gods from Norse mythology have been appearing in Thor comic books.   Hercules(even though he isn't from Norse mythology) has also been in Thor comics.
