Sophie is quite confused and frightened when she is taken from her bed by a huge giant that takes her to his giant cave.  She thinks the giant will definitely eat her, but then she finds that the giant is a BFG (Big Friendly Giant).  Sophie is even more amazed when she finds that the BFG is just a grain of sand compared to the vicious bone crunching giants who pester and bully the BFG.  The wonderful giant and Sophie become great friends and go everywhere together.  It finally comes to the point where they have to help each other find a way to get rid of the mean giants; Fleshlumpeater, Bone-cruncher, Childchewer, Gizzardgulper, and others for the sake of Sophie's life and the BFG's safety.
