Raymond Moore was a teacher of English and botany, as well as a painter, actor, and playwright. An old Dennis church caught his eye. Under the direction of Moore and his friend, it became a well-known theater, The Cape Playhouse, which is still in use each summer. The playhouse is known as "America's Most Famous Summer Theater".
It is a unique building. It was built in 1870 as a meeting house, and has been moved around Dennis three times. In previous years, it has been a church, a schoolhouse, a tin shop, a slaughterhouse, a blacksmith's shop, and even a garage.
