My Grandfather's Story

How This Story
Changed Me

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN

History has always been a boring subject to me, but now I think I understand that history isn't just some event that happened to somebody else or took place somewhere else. It happens to real people and World War II happened to my grandfather.

When we first started working on this project, I confess, I didn't know much about World War II. When someone mentioned it to me, I would've been like "UGH. History? Yuck." But as I started reading more and more about it, my interest grew because just knowing someone who fought in a war made it more real to me.

Now when someone says it, I'm more like "World War II? Oh, did you know....". I learned how important it was and I am proud my grandfather fought for our country. Now I'm glad I've been learning about this war. World War II is very important to me for this reason and does not seem like just "some war".

I never knew exactly what my Grandfather did in the war. I just knew he was in a war. But after I did some research, I found I enjoyed learning about places and things people I know and love had been a part of.

This project is really exciting to me because for me, once I'm working on something, I'm not thinking about anything but what I'm working on. After it's over, I can still remember it and it seems important to me. Sort of like when I work on a biography of someone, even after the project's over, I really find that person quite interesting. Right now I find my Grandfather and the war VERY interesting.
