FOOD HABITS

In Alaska, moose and caribou are the primary food of wolves. Due to their large size, small animals like fish, rabbits, birds, mice and other small animals can not support a wolf. Wolves never attack people for food. They only attack people when they are injured or sick.

In areas where there are a lot of farms you might also find wolves. The wolves will prey on the farm animals because they are easy to get. Because wolves do this they are often shot or caught in traps.

Wolves have strong teeth and a very strong jaw. Their sharp teeth help them hold their prey and then they will kill it. This allows them to kill big and even small animals. They have a certain set of teeth called the incisors. These teeth help the wolf to pick meat off of the bones of the prey that they just killed. These teeth are very precious to the wolf. They also have a set of teeth that are called canines that help the wolves slice their food so they can eat it.
