
Harriet Beecher Stowe was born on June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She was famous for Uncle Toms Cabin, which is a book about slavery.
Harriet Beecher Stowe went to college at Hartford Female Seminary, and became a teacher there as well.
After that she began to learn about slavery and she visted a plantation in Kentucky where she helped a black maide escape. At the age of 24, she married Calvin Stowe. They had seven children and Harriet started to write.
The Stowes then moved to Brunswick, Maine where Harriet started writing a story. The story appered in news articles everywhere and when the story was published, it sold 300,000 the first year. It was called Uncle Tom's Cabin, a book on slavery. It was said that one could feel the hatred of slavery as one read the book.
Harriet released many other books. None of them as succesful as Uncle Tom's Cabin.
Harriet Beecher Stowe died July 1, 1896 in Hartford, Connecticut. Her book is still loved by many people.
